My pastor said something a weeks ago that caught my attention. He said we should empty our tank here on earth. We don’t want to meet God and realize there is more we could have done. We hold back in so many ways when it comes to loving others or pursuing what stirs us.
It’s not about regret. I don’t think we will sense that in heaven. But it is doing our best, not holding back, letting God explode out of us and living fully.
In dozens of ways we don’t “run this race” (as Paul says in Hebrews 12) as if this life means as much as it should. We will get into Hebrews 11 soon, but for now let me ask:
Do you love people as deeply as you should?
Do you hold back from reaching out to others?
Do you talk yourself off of the prompts put on your heart?
Do you tell yourself someone else is better suited for an opportunity?
Do you give 100% when you go to work? With your kids? How about your spouse?
What have you really wanted to do that you keep putting off?
For me, one of those things, is this blog. I started it in college and, to be honest, thought I’d be more consistent/established in it by now. I’ve come at it from obligation, trying to make it something it’s not. It’s been fallow for a while. And previous attempts in consistency have failed.
But I keep coming back to it. There is a lot going on in our world, things I want to speak into and process. And I sense some of those things might resonate with you. I am a written processor, so why not share what’s going on in my head?
I invite you to join me here on Tuesdays where we will talk about faith, politics, life, engagement, running our races well. I hope as I try to figure out how to do this life well that I will encourage you too.
I don’t pretend to have it all together. But I am going to put my curiosity to good use and try to figure some things out. I am making it a priority to show up here once a week. Who knows what might come out of our time together.
Here’s to the journey.
